What the developers said
Blizzard's developers on its podcast, panels and streams, newest first. Each line sums up what they said at that moment, and the badge says how it holds up against the game files.
Partly Skyborne origin: Eldre'Thalas (now Dire Maul) after the War of the Ancients; rebels opposed Prince Tortheldrin plan to harness demonic energy, lost, and fled Kalimdor westward by sea.
The files ChrRaces 95: 'descendants of the ancient Highborne scholars of Eldre'Thalas'. Faction 2779: 'Highborne magisters of Eldre'Thalas... the past 10,000 years in the realm of Skywall'. Tortheldrin's demonic plan and the flight by sea are not in client data.
